JAPAN INDIA AYURVEDA ASSOCIATION STARTED A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH SANDY’S FARM STAY !
Ayurvedic cooking lessons – “Wisdom from Grandma” from Sandy’s Farm Stay, Uttarakhand!
It has been 24 years since I married into an Indian family.
While spending more than 20 years in Gurugram, an IT city in the suburbs of Delhi, I have learned Indian home-style cooking from my mother-in-law and family from Punjab who are excellent cooks.
I was fascinated by the true Indian home cooking that uses varieties of Ayurvedic elements. It is gentle and healthy, and is customized for the family’s health states and preferences. Then I have been leading cooking classes for Japanese and other foreigners.
Ayurveda is profound and is the wisdom of Rishis (enlightened people) handed down through thousands of years of history in India.

Ayurveda is profound and is the wisdom of Rishis (enlightened people) handed down through thousands of years of history in India.
Ayurveda is also a discipline that can bring hints for living a happy life and the effects that are sometimes beyond the reach of modern science and medicine.
Therefore, it takes a certain amount of time and effort if you really want to learn it.
On the other hand, Ayurveda that I have learned from my mother-in-law is like the ones below, which are like “Obacyan no chie”(wisdom of grandmother)” that we have in Japan.
“Don’t eat yogurt if you have a fever,”
“Eat radish salad while the sun is still up”
“Don’t apply henna (a natural Indian dye made from ground up henna leaves) to your hair when you have a period,” etc.

Looking into Ayurvedic teaching, these were the things taught by Ayurveda. I would like to continue to pass on the love of Ayurveda that has been passed down orally.
In June 2020, after India experienced one of the most severe lockdowns in the world, I started running a farm stay guesthouse in a mountain village in Uttarakhand, surrounded by forests, rivers, and mountains. I serve cooking at the guesthouse that was used for a long time as a holiday house.
We are receiving good reputations from both Indian and Japanese guests for our food made with varieties of home-grown ingredients with the power of nature and ingredients grown by the local farmers as well as the comfortable living spaces.
We hope you will come and taste the power of nature in India. We will treat you with all our heart.
